A CELEBRATION ALWAYS CHERISHED BRIEF ORIGIN AND DEVELOPMENT
Anambra state indigene resident in Aba has always sought for their special identity.
From time when we settled in Aba understanding our roots becomes important which led to the regular visits to our villages for celebrations like new yam festival, Christmas, and Easter celebrations. These also led to the insistence that traditional weeding be done in the villages instead of cities where we reside.
New approach evolved with the growth of our cultural interest, the issue of the title taking from the ICHIES to the NZE na OZO’s etc, it became the new identity or position. Without a title you are virtually a nobody both in the villages and the cities. People paid dearly for these titles but were still very happy to be so identified.
Some titles were elevating while others were for identity only. People use title taking occasions for every elaborate and expansive ceremonies, friends, guests, families etc, were measures of your expansive relationships. Gradually a need for more inclusive arrangements came into play.
This time town unions started springing up to take over and reduce costs for their people celebration now became a group issue.
Then in 1976 Anambra state was created out of the 12 state structures, as the state continued to develop, a new identity structure was being developed in aba. Abia state was one of the cities in Nigeria that was both productive and growth enhancing. It was attraction because the earliest people that arrived were warmly received by the by the natives that gave them land and space to grow.
